GE Fund awards grants to three Indian organisations

ITP News Network/Mumbai

GE Fund, the philantrophic foundation funded solely by US-based General Electric Company (GE) has awarded grants worth US $ 1,29,000 to three Indian not-for-profit organisations, Vinimay Trust, ICRIER and Each One Teach One, for supporting their programs in the area of education and research

Vinimay Trust is a Mumbai-based organisation, which consists of a group of dedicated voluntary workers engaged in the uplift of underprivileged children and youth in Child Welfare Institutions (CWIs). Scholarships, tutorial assistance, medical care (in special cases), personality development and social exposure are some of the trust’s child welfare programs conducted by the Vinimay Trust.

The trust also conducts targeted programs for the youth who leave the CWIs around the age of 18 years, helping them with job placements, personal finances etc. GE Elfun volunteers will begin voluntary work with them through educational classes, learning trips for the children etc..

The Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) is an autonomous, policy-oriented, not-for-profit, research institution. The ICRIER promotes multi-disciplinary research at the cutting edge of knowledge creation and provides a forum for continuing dialogue amongst decision-makers in government, academia, industry and civil society.

Each One Teach One (EOTO) is a charitable trust headquartered at Mumbai with a self-sustaining branch at Bangalore. The main motive behind this trust is a deep commitment to help underprivileged children in municipal schools and women with their daily necessities such as uniforms, books, coaching, health care and vocational training sessions.

GE Elfun volunteers have been working with EOTO since 1999 to give computer education to the underprivileged children. Their vision is to ‘bridge the digital divide’ by giving quality training in real life use of computers.
