IBM
India and NIIT have tied-up to build manpower skills on IBM software
technologies. NIIT will be providing training in its 51 CATS centres
all over the country from January 28, 2002. This includes the complete
range of Data management (DB2, Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing
and OLAP) and Transformation and Integration (Visual Age for Java
and Websphere Application Server) software.
Describing
this partnership as the most exciting event of the year,
Pawan Sharma, Country Manager, Software Group & Developer Relations,
IBM India, said that the endeavour is an effort to meet skill gaps
in the international and the Indian market. The market for
IBM software in India is growing at a rate of 25 percent. Atleast
10,000 people are needed in the international and Indian market
in e-business initiative. He added that it was important to
create a pool of trainers to give IBM software training.

Rajendran, chief operation officer, NIIT said that the partnership
will mainly address the corporate training segment. He pointed out
that the company has been using IBM technologies for various projects
but there was no handshake. After the initiative in
India, the training program will be conducted in 27 to 30 countries.
This is a felt need and we are very focussed. Our trainers
will go through instructor certifications.
While
the costing of the courses is yet to be formally announced, it is
estimated that a typical three-week program will cost about Rs 10,000.
