Microsoft introduces two new security certifications

ITP News Network / Mumbai

With the objective of enabling Indian IT professionals with the requisite IT security management skills and knowhow, Microsoft has announced the availability of two new security certification specialisations. Targeted at systems administrators and systems engineers, these new certifications—MCSA: Security; and MCSE: Security—will help validate specific technical skills around critical IT security functions in an organisation.

Elaborating on the certification roll-out, Punit Vanvaria, manager for business development with Microsoft Corporation India said, “Ensur-ing security of critical data and information is a priority for the connected enterprise today. This translates into an upsurge in demand for specialised network professionals who possess the necessary knowledge and skills to build and maintain a secure computing environment within an enterprise. In sync with this requirement, the launch of our new Microsoft security certifications will ensure the creation of a ready resource pool of system engineers and administrators who will be specialists on the subject of security.”

“The importance of security polices and trained security experts is critical for ensuring a secure computing environment in an enterprise today and at Microsoft we are committed to ensure that as a key deliverable of our Trustworthy Computing initiative,” added Vanvaria.

The new MCSA: Security and MCSE: Security certifications are built upon the industry-recognised Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) credentials. Security certifications are specific to both Windows 2000 and the Windows Server 2003 platform.

To earn one of the new security certifications, candidates will be required to pass core exams for the MCSA or MCSE credential, and then pass a number of security specialisation exams to demonstrate their ability in key areas such as security foundations, security implementation and security design. One of these specialisation options is the CompTIA Security+ credential, which is an industry-recognised standard for foundation-level security practitioners. Security+ was developed by a panel of leading security experts from academia, government, and industry, including Microsoft.
