ITP News Network / Kolkata

Agartala-based South Asian Management Techno-logies (www.pgdisa.org) in collaboration with Tripura University, has recently introduced a one-year PG Diploma course in Information System (IS) Audit. The company claims that this is the first university affiliated course in IS Audit in the country.

Veena Hingarh, director of South Asian Management Technologies, said: ‘The company entered into a MoU with the Tripura University, wherein the varsity certified the course, making it the first such university course in the country.”

The one-year programme is for graduates with exposure to computers. This is offered under off-campus mode to suit the requirement of working professionals. The course is completely paperless and is offered under the distance education platform.

In recognition of the design and content of the course, FTMS Academy of Singapore has entered into an agreement with South Asian Management Tech-nologies to offer it in South East Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Uganda, Hong Kong and even the UK. Arif Ahmed, senior director of South Asian Management Tech-nologies pointed out that this is for the first time an Indian IT course affiliated to an Indian University is being offered overseas.

Commenting on the need for such a programme, Ahmed said as the society increases its reliance on information systems, the requirement is to audit the system to ensure that the information assets of the organisation is being properly safeguarded, accessed and used. The Information System Auditors perform these specific functions.

He added that at present there is no formal course on this subject, apart from a programme offered by a US based institution, which is expensive. South Asian Management Technolo-gies has introduced the course and chose the underdeveloped state of Tripura as the base for its operation.

The Tripura Unive-rsity would be structuring the curriculum, conducting the examinations and award the PG diploma.

The Reserve Bank of India has emphasised that banks and the financial institutions should use qualified information systems auditors and security professionals, for conducting of Information System Audit in their organisation.

“We have designed this course on Information System Audit, keeping in view the emerging requirement of the skill,” added Ahmed.
